NFL to Allow Use of Small Melee Weapons on the Field

In the past months, interest in professional football has been dwindling compared to past years. To solve this problem, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell released this statement last Sunday:

“In response to a decline in both game attendance and television ratings, we have decided to officially amend the rule book. As of December 1st, 2019, a select group of weapons will be allowed for use by defensive teams in any and all games.”

The new equipment includes clubs, bats, batons, and brass knuckles, amongst others.

While there have been no formal statements from any teams, the new change has been generally praised, and should bring some much needed diversity to the sport.

By allowing these new weapons, the NFL hopes to allow players to change adapt their techniques and express themselves in new ways.

It is also expected that television ratings and ticket sales will skyrocket, since professional football is soon to become the first legal blood sport in the U.S.
